Bought a custom 1984 board and really had a great experience. Gravitated to the 84 board since I have been surfing since the late 80’s and remember the boards from that time. Wanted to change the dimensions since I wanted more of a floaty board for small FL waves. I already have 4 other boards from other shapers for different waves so wanted this one to be a good board for 2 to 3 ft small mushy FL surf. Ordered a custom 6 ft that is 37 liters of float. The process of getting the shape right and the correct dimensions was very easy and the Rusty team was very helpful along the way. Ordered the board around Nov. and got it late Jan. Thought the wait time was not that bad and I take a break over the winter anyway. When I got the board I was super impressed with the packing and safety that was taken to get me the board safely. When I first saw the board I was super impressed with the build quality and strength of it. I added a full color and it was super cool and saw no defects at all. The glassing is super even and there are no blemishes or defects. The color was a little off from the website color but that was stated when I added the color and think the blue on it is cooler then the blue on the website. As for the shape it’s hard for me since I like to hold a board and determine how I like it and now after ordering other customs from other makers I know that what you get is slightly different than what you picture in your mind. Overall I was happy but thought it was a little bulkier then what I was picturing. However once I surfed it today all those thoughts went away as it felt really good in the water and felt much move maneuverable then I imagined. So to wrap it up I am very pleased and believe the build quality will allow me to keep the board for many years. I would definitely recommend Rusty as a board shaper to buy your next custom from as the experience was very very good! I know I will look to order something from them again. Hope this helps whoever reads this.
I have the anniversary model with glass on fins. The board flies!!! I can turn hard off the bottom and hack off top. Can put board on rail whether it’s waist high or overhead. Great all around board and definitely good board for small days!
1st time I jumped on it about 4 years ago wasn't sure what to expect. Had a little difficulty making friends with this shred stick the 1st time particularly when making a bottom turn because I was used to a more conventional snappy/tighter arc bottom turn. Well let me tell you after I drew out my line a little wider and longer off the bottom this became one of my favorite go to boards! It very well may be the fastest board I've ridden and definitely the funnest to throw huge gaping cutbacks and power turns. I must say it throws airs very well too if you know what you are doing. In a nutshell this raging bull has a forgotten soul in it that all should experience. Go get stoked!
I have had this board since last Christmas and I don't ride it all the time but when I do ride it. It just puts a massive smile on my face.
I have had this board for several years now. The first day I surfed it, I was transported back to the 80's. So fast and fun. Great for small mushy surf, and it flies over flat sections with ease. FCS H2 Fins work great with it as well.
