Since 1984, when Rusty Preisendorfer first started his brand, every board that has gone through the factory has been designed or overseen by him in some way, shape or form.
Even in the era with 12 shapers mowing foam to keep up with orders, all the way to the cutting machine and boards being finished by Rick and Hoy this past week, the Big Man takes pride in quality surfboards that perform at the highest levels.
To reflect this attention to detail, we have, in celebration of 40 years of Rusty Surfboards, created a certificate of authenticity that comes with every board.
Custom surfboards have always been the cornerstone of surfing. Pros used to make their own boards, perfecting them over the decades. Many went on to start brands and handcraft boards for the lucky surfers who could get in line.
Something changed over the last 15 years. Stock models and set dimensions became the norm. With websites and offshore builds, it became easier—but that didn’t mean it was better. It just was what it was.
That needed to change in our eyes. We shifted our business back to U.S. factories for glassing, but we also wanted to reintroduce the experience of working with a shaper to build you the best boards of your life—boards made for you, not just for people like you.
Your abilities and experiences are unique to you, and so should be the boards you ride. That’s what elevates your ability, allowing you to grow and expand your horizons.
All our boards are made in our San Diego factory. Stock boards are great, as always, but we encourage you to call or email us. Set up an appointment with Rusty, Rick, or Hoy so they can help you get the board you’ve always hoped for.
All you gotta do is ask. Know your shaper.
