Just got back from a two week Central America trip, brought four boards, all Rusty makes: Twin Fin, Rooster, Heckler, and the Barking Spider. This was my first time on the Barking Spider and to me it has some attributes of all the other boards, without Venturi bottom obviously. I rode it in some small but decent 3' swell and it worked great, but most importantly I had it out on two days that had solid 10' faces at 16 second intervals, lots of power. The board held the speed so well and tracked down the line like a champ, total confidence in the big juice! Rode it as a quad the entire time: Futures AM2 Tech Flex, what a perfect set up! This board is absolutely fabulous just Wow, the Barking Spider will not let you down.
The look and feel of this board was on the mark - the volume, rails, foil, E-Poly whiteness, etc. I did not have that feeling of "Well, I'm sure I'll learn to like it after a while..." I took it out for the first time in some head high waves. From my first wave the board just felt great - very intuitive surfing, zero learning curve for this board. Went easily on rail and felt like a scalpel just opening up the wave face. Although it's more than 1 liter less than the 5'8 Chew Toy, it felt like it paddled just as well. Must be the more flatish deck? Anyway, I'm stoked. Thanks for such a good board.
Picked up a stock DIM 6'0 off the shelf and it went like a dream. Loads of speed off the take off, ultra responsive and incredibly easy to go rail to rail. Will be getting another.
